About Us
Our focus is to be a family of believers, demonstrating God's PURPOSE by LIVING the LIFE that Jesus died for us to LIVE. Just as Jesus preached, we believe that "the kingdom of heaven is at hand" and seek to understand the principals of God's kingdom and LIVE today a fruitful and abundant life. We believe that the church goes beyond the four walls and it is our responsibility to allow Christ to be perfected in us, empowering us to affect our community, our neighbors and nations to build up the body of Christ.
Pastor Donald and Jennifer Ritchie - God called for them to leave Wisconsin and begin a new work in Huntington, WV by starting - I am Ministries Church in 2004. Prior to coming here, they were Pastors over the LOVE and CHARITY Mission located in Racine, WI (between Milwaukee, WI and Chicago, IL). They were also Pastors of Cornerstone Fellowship Church in Kenosha, WI. They have two children, Noah Elias, 7 years old and Makenzie Ellen, 5 years old. They have a passion for serving the community and foreign missions. They have led several short term missions including, Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Jamaica, Philippines, and Uganda. They believe that the church should be a FAMILY and a Safe Haven for all people.
I AM Ministries 2005 & 2006 Movie In the beginning we were meeting in a home for services and eventually remodeling a tin garage as a church building. We remember a time where we had so little. We had no bathrooms and using kerosene heater to warm our tin building. Our brothers in Jamaica were hit by a hurricane and God spoke to our hearts to take all of our church funds and send it to help them. God took our financial seed and literally GAVE us a church building valued at $250,000! The church property was originally donated in 1929 by Azel Meadows, the president of the Azel Meadows real estate Company. His belief was that if a town/ city was going to grow it needed a church and a school so he donated the land for the Meadows School and this church, formally the Sunset Chapel Baptist Church. We continue to believe that as we sow INTO God's kingdom, obeying His voice, HE will meet our needs. This historical building is in need of much repair, however we have seen God work miracles. We now have a parsonage and used the lot for off road parking. We are continuing to remodel and we have seen such GREAT progress. Praise the Lord!!
From Charleston: Take I-64 W towards Huntington. Take the US-60 Exit 18-towards WV-2/Barboursville. Turn Right onto CR-19N/Merricks Rd and continue straight to the light at the T-intersection. Take a left onto Ohio River Rd/WV-2. The white church is about 3 miles on the left, as the speed limit changes from 55 to 45.
